Delta GEMS
The Delta GEMS logo is likened to a gemologist who can see through the use of certain tools, the hidden treasure in unpolished jewels. Delta GEMS uses the polished jewels as a symbol of the many facets that shine and glow within our young African-American women.
Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) (ages 14 – 18)
The Delta GEMS program, an extension of the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy I, focuses on girls aged 14-18 (grades 9-12) and serves as a roadmap for college and career planning. It equips young women with the tools to excel academically, set goals, and plan for life beyond high school. By engaging in service learning, participants develop into compassionate, community-minded individuals.
Hosted by the Metropolitan Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Delta GEMS aims to foster strong, confident, and respectful young women, preparing them for future success.
This program is designed for young women who:
- Need guidance and support to achieve success
- Are interested in leadership development
- Are pursuing college and/or career goals
- Need encouragement in higher education
- Are identified by schools, churches, or youth groups
Program focus areas include:
- Scholarship (Academic Excellence)
- Sisterhood (Self-Esteem, Health, Leadership)
- Financial Awareness & Literacy
- Community Service
- College Preparation
- Civic Engagement
